Sekolah Main Wayang (Rakan Muda Version)

Sekolah Main Wayang (SMW) or School of Shadow Playing, a theatre education program aimed at teens from underprivileged communities. The workshop strives to provide youths with skills for artistic storytelling using a combination of theatre, shadow puppetry, video, and sound. This workshop was designed to create an environment that is highly collaborative, expressive and creative. Our first run was part of the Rakan Muda creative mentorship program under the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the workshop traveled to three secondary schools in rural or semi-rural townships across Malaysia – in Putatan, Sabah; Sematan, Sarawak; and Alor Setar, Kedah. These workshops then culminated in a performance at Festival Belia Putrajaya 2015 held in the country’s administrative capital, Putrajaya.

The performances conceived by the workshop participants were presented at Pesta Belia Putrajaya 2015.
