Dream Masking

A prototype for a new workshop that’s being developed to create a shared feeling of belonging and connectedness within the participants by using dreams and masks. This workshop is also an approach to use art to tap into the unconscious as a means to become more aware of our self-thoughts and beings.

The process begins by attempting to collectively dream about a certain place and time that all the participants had once shared together; in this case, it was during a research trip to Mexico City in November 2019. Over the span of a few weeks, these dreams were anonymously collected online and then reinterpreted visually in 2D and then finally into 3 dimensional masks.

Discussions between the participants followed once the masks were made, as to how they perceive themselves or interpret certain ideas or feelings that they had. This becomes an entry point for the participants to self reflect in a calm and informal manner.
